Makawanpur: In response to the manhandling of doctors, all medical services except emergency and pharmacy have been temporarily suspended at various hospitals and health institutions across Makawanpur district.

This shutdown comes as a protest against the incident involving the assault of Dr. Bikas Thapa and Dr. Prashant Bidari from Sancho Hospital in Hetauda sub-metropolis-1, which occurred on Wednesday. The doctors were reportedly attacked by the relatives of Rakesh Pradhan, who alleged negligence on the part of the medical staff in the treatment of Pradhan. Tragically, Pradhan had passed away due to dengue-related complications while undergoing treatment at Sancho Hospital approximately one month ago.

Dr. Ram Chandra Sapkota, the Medical Superintendent at Hetauda Hospital, confirmed that all healthcare services, except for emergency care and pharmacy services, have been halted in response to the incident. He explained that this move was initiated after doctors and healthcare workers expressed concerns about their safety and security.

In solidarity with the protest, Hetauda Hospital has also suspended all services except for emergency and pharmacy services as a means of raising awareness about the challenges faced by medical professionals.

The shutdown of medical services extends to other hospitals and health institutions throughout Makawanpur district, with seventy-eight healthcare workers, including doctors from Hetauda Hospital, resigning en masse due to concerns about their security.

This collective action by healthcare professionals underscores the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety and security of medical staff while continuing to provide essential healthcare services to the public. The situation remains dynamic, and further developments may arise as authorities and stakeholders work towards a resolution.
